I'm Not Afraid
I did it! I finally started my own website and blog, I daydreamed about it for so long and kept waiting for the right timing. Inspired Lean In's "What would you do #ifuwerentafraid" campaign and the James Clear Writing Challenge. I decided to sign up and buy my own website melodyhmitchell.com. I forced my hand to begin, and here I am! Nothing has happened yet, so I start my first post with the thrill of anticipation.
Why do I write and why now?
Why not? I don’t know if the timing will ever be right, but I feel the need. I am always eager to share lessons learned and books I devoured with friends or random strangers. I also realized the blogging community of military servicewomen is still very small. It would be great to help it grow. I meet women in the military every day who are yearning for guidance, camaraderie, and support. My intent is to spark a positive discussion and contribute to a community - a tribe. Men and women who want to bridge the gender divide in the fields of military or law enforcement. I recognize I may not have all the answers, but I will speak from the heart and at least share what I learned the hard way. I will do my best to bring in views from others. In fact, I plan to share broader experiences through interviews and other contributors (would you like to write a post?). This blog will work to empower women and men may find it useful as well. I hope both genders can contribute to the discussion and gain insight. This is for anyone interested in promoting diversity, understanding, and success in the workplace and life.
But wait, there's more?
I also love sharing insights about my travels and love for the Middle East. There’s so much more to life than work, I may share a few other delights. I am on a journey of self-growth and I relish the search for things to make life more fulfilling. I will share some of the gems I found most useful or interesting along my path. I recognize this is such a new adventure for me, I will stumble along the way. I will likely be out of step time to time, but am determined to keep marching post by post. I simply want to go for it and start writing, hopefully recording too...
I'm a fighter...and a writer?
In the past, I never thought I could write. I always wrote papers at the last minute! Yet this last year, I realized I am capable of more than I ever demanded of myself, and learned that I enjoy writing. This discovery, combined with the challenge, generated enough momentum for me to reach way outside my comfort zone. At a minimum, I'm committing to writing on "Wingwoman Wednesday." If at least one person learns something, or another military woman starts a blog, it will all be worth it. We will see where this adventure grows, how large this tribe will become? Welcome to my world...I appreciate you joining me on this journey...
